''Traditional Cajun Music and Modern Cajun Music''

First of all, both songs are nice, and the language is cajun derivative French ''Cajun Frech''. In my opinion, the first song ''The Balfa Brothers'' is a romantic song, because the rythm is slow, and also the voice of the singer sounds romantic. I think is the perfect song to couples dance in a romantic way. Moreover, the second song is totally different, is more energeticic, people can dance in an energetic way and enjoy with friends.

I think that the instruments are: electric guitars, drum kit, acoustic guitar and fiddle.

I like it the first song..,because sounds romantic!

cajun music maripili

This topics are very exciting for me: creole, cajun. Culture meanings.

Now I heard the videos about the cajun music.

In the first one, it is clear the foreigner language, like a french. In the second one, it is different the language. The rhythm is similar, only more quickly in the last one.  The instruments can saw it in the first video are cord instruments, but in the last one, I guess are electronic and acustic instruments like a piano. Maybe, in the brothers video is more sad and the couple dancing video is more happy.

it is exciting to know about this!!

02/19/2013 Cajun music!

Hello classmastes!

I really like to learn to dance the music of Jamie Bergeron!  it's really invite to dance and have fun!

1) What language are these people singing in?

Balfa Brothers:
The language is French but the pronunciation is so different from the French speakers that I have listed before. The rhythm of the music is slowly.

Jamie Bergeron:
The son is in English.

 2) What is the difference between "traditional" Cajun music and "modern" Cajun music?

Traditional music use classic instruments in comparison with the modern that beside classic instruments, introduce electronics instruments.

Another difference is the rhythm in traditional is slowly while in modern the tempo is more quickly.

3) What instruments are they playing?

In the song of Balfa Brothers I heard the follow instruments:

.- Violin
.- Clasic Guitar
-. One metal instrument that produce high frecuncy and
.- accordion.

In the Jamie Bergoren the rhythm of the music is more happy and invite to dance.

Moderns instruments are included like electronic guitar, electronic keyboard, drum set and the classic instruments such as accordion and violin.

house in new orleans Maripili

Hello everyone,

I had read about the houses in new orleans. I confused a little bit about it, but I think most houses in st. Charles are outbuildings. That houses have two floors.
I just living in a different house in uptown is called shotgun single.

That house has two floors too but it is divided in two narrow houses and  each one is divided for floors. In summary are 4 families there. My house has a little storage area in the beginning, and useful for many activities dinning, tv, after that has a bedroom in the smae space, then kitcken, bathroom and finally my room, all of this in a line, the house has a common courtyard,  with a washed room.
This is my shotgun single house in NO!!

This is the cathedral Saint Louis, I think this place it has a lot to do with the culture of New Orleans because the mayority people that lives in New Orleans are Catholic.

I think Mardi Gras is the most important festival in New Orleans for de residents and for de tourist because Mardi Gras is big party here, is very famous around the world.

Mardi Gras Indians

First of all, I would like to say that I like the costumes of Indians uses.

I like the words that Tyrone Casby said '' The Mardi Gras Indian is very integral. It's a Mardi Gras in Black communiy''.

In fact, a lot of  traditicions of New Orleans come of community neccesity, Social age is an important factor in New Orleans.  Some Indians are poor and they need money, these parades moving commerce. For example the food, the drink, that people buy.

I took this phono on Sunday Night! Was the first time that I saw an Indian in French Quater.

Songs!

The song Mardi Gras Mambo has a nice rhythm, it made feel like in a party and is nice and esay to sing this song, also, this song invite to visit and be part of the Mardy Grass party, where the people enjoy the music and the attractions around the floats. This song must be old because the picture in the video, where the trumpet has a nice sound that remembered me the streets performers around French Quarter.

The song Go to Mardi Gras really caught me with the contagious whistle. The song is about an open invitation to people who visit New Orleans to enjoy the Mardi Gras, where you can see the Zulu's King and Queen.

They all have asked for you, is like a nostalgic song with a nice rhythm where the animals ask for someone that is not right now maybe in heaven,  that everybody appreciate so much.

About the video: indians parade

Hello!

I like very much this video because I understand another elements in the parade and their origins. For a narrator, Indians parades is a "mysterious". Middle and working class participe, maybe like a expression about another needs.

The community organizes to resolve their necesities. Black and hispanic races was segregated, and is another way to organization behind thge parade. In otherwise, express their identity of course.

Mardi Gras is more than beautiful parades, costums, bourbon st and floats, it is a social and cultural movement. I am interesting in that theme. The religion and the social needs combines in that festival.

About the songs...

Hello everybody!

In first time, when I listened this songs I thought about the singers. They has a particular voice and tone. I am related with the culture and african american people.

The songs are like a picture about New orleans, specificaly a huge and important holidays: Mardi Gras. The music and your lirics invite us to enjoy this time, but refers about the culture: Zulu gang, Zulu queen, bayou "fire".

Talking about the "mixed culture" indirectly, then mencioned singular places like a Audubon Zoo, and every animal there express something.

In the first song,  talk about the "cats meet", the mans who share mardi gras, enjoy and talk about it.

Finally, I feel good and funny but maybe just remember what happens when different people meet...
