Around New Orleans!

Hello classmates.

Two issues that I was excited to know in New Orleans were the music and the steamboat on Mississippi River.

The music in New Orleans seems to me unique in its style and you can enjoyed everywhere in French Quarter from the street performers until bars and fancy restaurants.  The Jazz is excited, the sound of differents instruments like trumpet, Hi-Hat Cymbals, Bass Drum, saxophone, trombone and clarinet make me feel terrifit!

The steamboat is a hallmark in New Orleans.

The Steamboat was the first boat that travel on Mississippi River and is one the major attraction in New Orleans.

The best of New Orleans

I love BEIGNETS!!  When I walked around New Orleans and I saw Cafe Du Monde, I ate Beignets and Hot Chocolate. Was delicious. So it, when I think in Beignets, the first thing in my mint is NEW ORLEANS!!  Are unique of New Orleans.

Mardi Grass are other thing that make me think in NOLA! I know that are many carnivals around the world, for example in Brasil and Venecia. However, In new Orleans are unique!! 

First Parade : Krew du Vieux! I enjoyed with my friends, Suchi, Maripili and Carlos.

The other thing that make me think in New Orleans is the people. People in New Orleans are friendly.

Some Pictures of New Orleans culture!

Hubig's Pies was my FAVORITE place to get fried pies in New Orleans until about 6 months ago.  When I saw a Hubig's pie, I thought IMMEDIATELY of New Orleans.  The bakery burned to the ground, and they are in the process of rebuilding at the same location.  Both David (walking in the picture) and I miss going to the store to buy these pies!

Mardi Gras Indians are another thing that make me think immediately of New Orleans.  This is a tradition that only exists here.  These are African-American men and women who dress up in colorful costumes that look similar to those worn by Native Americans of the United States.  They come out on Mardi Gras morning!

NFL  20-01-13

The baltimore Ravens defeated the New England Patriots 24-13. The game was filled with excitement from both teams, but the Patriots looked like the better team, leading at half 13 to 7. In the second half Ravens played better ans scored three straight tounchdowns, while stopping the Patriots three times.

There is a yellow line and blue line and I don't know what they are for, why the players who are around the ladder protect him from the attackers. what is the purpose for kicking the ball after scoring. I get confused when I see the whole team switch to another team after scoring. why the quarterback throws the ball out if he doesn't find anyone opening up.

NFL 01/20/2013

Yestarday 01/20/2013, was playing Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers at the house of the Falcons for 3 hours.It was my first American Football game and I saw it at Danna Center with a friend that I met there who explain me all my doubts about the game. The room was divided, the energy and the adrenaline was in place with our eyes in the screen. The game stared with a flip or toss  coin, kicking the ball to the field of the team who won.

The penalty and how scored the points was the most difficult to me.

I saw a penaty when an offensive team spend more than 30 seconds to play the ball and got a backward that means that have to add more yards to complete their first 10 yards in 4 downs. The other difficult issue is scored the points. It has the a) touchdown equal to 6 points, b) field point to score 1 point immediately after touchdown and c) the field point when within their 4 downs decide to kick the ball throug the posts or uprights to get 3 points. In this game either team attended  an Extra Point to score 2 points that could be attemp just after touchdown by running or throwing the ball to a team mate in defensive end zone. I saw a couple of intersections, tackles  and fumbles that made the game more interesting. Atlanta always lead the score over San  Francisco but it changed at the last quater when San  Francisco scored a touchdown and defeat Atlanta 28 to 24.

I like this game and I am ready to see the Super Bowl 2013 between San Francisco and Baltimore, soon I will tell you my team.

Miskitos - Indigenous Group.

Hello Culture Class! 

In Nicaragua are several differents Indigenous groups, however I would like to share with all about ‘’Miskitos’’.  I chose ‘’Miskitos Group’’ because is the most famous Indigenous group in Nicaragua.

Believe me, MISKITOS have an interesting life to know. Their culture is totally different related to the rest of Nicaraguan people. When I think in MISKITOS I feel culture shock, because their costumes and traditions are different.

To begin, Miskitos loves the water because they consider that it is sacred. The water for them its essencial or indispensable, as a consequence they live on the water, located in the costa Caribe of Nicaragua, close to rivers, lagoos, and lakes. They uses many intelligent straregies to live on the water. Also, they obtain their alimentation from the water (fishing).

 In additon, are many myths and legends, people and sacred places for them, such as the Moon. The moon have a speciall meaning for them, they know what time, day, and month through the moon.

Miskitos have their own calendar. The specials day for them are totally different than the usual peopple in Nicaragua, for example they have 13 months and 29 days.

‘The language of misquitos are ‘’Miskito’’, but they have lexical in English and Spanish.

Waraos. Venezuelan Indigenuos

Have a a good weekend and enjoy free activies!

I choose for my homework talk about indigenous people from Venezuela. Because I don't like very much football and I don't understand it.

Venezuelan people are mixed people. The indigenous was the first population. In 1492, Colon "discover" America! ( or arrived in Venezuela in Coro -northwest city in Venezuela). Spanish people domained indigenuos and come in black slaves from Africa after arrived. Today, in my country, will be that mixed cultures in a food, religion, costumes and fenotypes.

In Venezuela, right now, the indigenuos group are smaller than another centuries. Today is "1.5% of total population", cited Wikipedia (Jan 17, 2013). I think is an excluded group and unknowed their costumes. In Caracas, the capital, maybe you can see some indigenous in the streets without work (females and her children) in a poor conditions.

The actual goverment, has a included politicals, but I not sure about your efectiveness. In the Venezuela's map you will see the distribuition about that groups, in the southeastern states, close to Amazonia. In the jungle (Bolivar and Amazonas state) and the Zulia state, in the northewest of country.

We have 26 groups in my country (Wikipedia, Jan 17, 2013), someone are: Yanomani, Warao, Pemon, maybe the most famous. Warao live in Delta Amacuro state, in northesatern. Lives near to Orinoco's river, the biggest river there. Your house are made with trees and use boats for their transportation. They are hunters and fishers. Lives in houses above the water.

They have their owner languagues warao. I never had been in a indigenuos neighborhood, but In UCAB in Caracas, has studying some indigenous.

Hello everybody, my best guess about the total spectators about  super dome in New Orleans fall.  My best guess was around 90.000 but is just.... 69.082.   See for yourself in Wikipedia.

If you like to buy a ticket for the next Super Bowl,  it could be a little expensive. It will be in the range of 2150 and 11950 USD.
